Guide Updates

Due to the printing schedule of the printed version a few changes and errors went to press before they could be corrected. If you have a printed guided just make note of the Updates on this page.

The downloadable version has been continually updated to reflect changes in the schedule and any errors that have been corrected. So download the downloadable version for the most accurate information.

Updates and Errata

Check this page for updates and changes in the guide. The downloadable version of the guide and map has the latest up-to-date information.

Although we try to provide an accurate tour guide there can be last minute scheduling changes and errors do occur. As volunteers with busy schedules and the layout person (me) has AADD we usually don't have sufficient time to thoroughly plan and proof the guide, but we do our best.

REVISIONS TO THE SATURDAY HOMES

Home 11
has the wrong directions and description. Use the following instead:

"DIRECTIONS
From the beltway take Rt. 450 east four miles to Rt. 193, Enterprise Rd. Turn right and go 1 mile. 4203 is on the left just before the Rt. 50 overpass.

ABOUT THE HOME
This 1960 residence is being retrofit according to a comprehensive renewable energy plan. Since the purchase in 1982, the homeowners have taken steps to both reduce energy consumption and take advantage of renewable energy sources. Five deciduous trees were planted on the south side of the house both to shade the house from the sun in the summer and allow the sun to warm the house in the winter, reducing both heating and cooling loads. Attic insulation was added; the original windows were replaced with double pane, gas-filled glass; and fluorescent light bulbs installed. Front-loading washer and drier conserve energy by reducing the demand for hot water and electricity. A 30-tube Thermomax domestic hot water system provides most of the household requirements, all but eliminating the use of the electric hot water heater. The photovoltaic system consists of a 2 kW array of 60 Solarex Millennia panels. A Whisper H-80 wind turbine complements the pv system. A set of maintenance-free Deka gel batteries provides backup power when the grid is down. The heart of the system is two stacked Trace inverters which provide 220v power to a well pump and a capacity of 11 kW."

Home 15 was left out of the printed guide but is correctly located on the Map. The error has been corrected in the downloadable guide.
